Cross device SDK | Google
I was the lead technical writer on the release of Android’s Cross device SDK. This project was one of Google's top three company-level priorities for 2022. As part of this large project, I:
Strategized and executed a comprehensive content plan: This plan detailed key requirements for the successful launch of the SDK, including a developer guide, a landing page, API reference documentation, blog posts, and a fully functional sample app. To align with Google’s business goals, each component was linked to its corresponding Objective and Key Results (OKR) to maximize its impact. The plan also included a detailed launch schedule for each content element and individualized review timelines for quality assurance.
Created and published a site landing page: I collaborated seamlessly with cross-functional teams, including marketing, engineering, and our web design contractor, to create a dynamic landing page. This involved writing compelling content and making decisions on content blocks, graphic elements, calls to action, and their strategic placement for optimal engagement.
Authored an extensive developer guide: This guide provided developers with a seamless onboarding experience, featuring a detailed overview, a 'getting started' section, and in-depth guides on enabling and proficiently utilizing the three distinct APIs of the SDK. I incorporated step-by-step tutorials complemented by code samples and high-quality graphics, ensuring that developers not only had access to robust technical information but also benefited from an engaging learning experience.
Co-authored a sample app with the lead engineer: I partnered with the lead developer relations engineer to conceptualize, test, and document a compelling rock, paper, scissors sample app. This app provided developers with a hands-on opportunity to deepen their understanding of the SDK and its capabilities.
Authored API reference documentation: I collaborated closely with the engineering team to create a comprehensive and accessible API reference that catered to both experienced and junior developers.
“Caitlin and I worked on Cross device SDK launch where we collaborated on developer guidance, presentation, and documentation. Caitlin has been great to work with and I can't recommend her enough. As an engineer, I was stunned by her drive to understand technology and make our products meaningful to our users (in this case developers). Caitlin is also a responsible and effective team player so I felt confident delegating tasks to Caitlin where she had to collaborate with stakeholders across a few different teams and organizations within Google. Caitlin has demonstrated technical prowess by putting together a dedicated website ahead of our product launch, rallied the engineering and product stuff to provide feedback and suggest improvements. Caitlin gets things done and fosters meaningful connections along the way.
To conclude, I'd say that if you have a chance to work with Caitlin - take it!”
